That’ll slap you in the face

Ever heard of a TIA? I had, vaguely, kinda sorta knew what it was. It was a little like a stroke, but not a stroke. Same kind of symptoms but they didn’t last. That’s all I knew.

Well, I know a lot more now because I had one 6 days ago.
I had a TIA at the age of 37.

That will scare the crap out of you. I woke up to a numb hand, my fingers had no feeling in the ends of them on the right side. I went to read a text message and the words didn’t make sense. None of the words made sense. I knew it too . . . my brain was telling me that I knew the words on the page but they just werent making any sense at all.

That lasted about 15 minutes. I called my Dr to make an appointment and went off to work. The call back was what hit me like I’d be slapped in the face. Come in and get checked out, today.  When I did, I ended up staying home from work for the rest of the week.

I quit smoking already. I rarely ever drink anymore. I exercise 4-5 times a week, I eat a healthier diet now than I ever have. The only thing that is bad is my weight and that’s mostly down to the insomnia. So what was I supposed to change?

Stress and Genetics, that’s what.

Still trying to figure that one out.
